The Route to Germany

Buying a rare oldtimer plane in the U.S. sounds adventurous and exciting, and we can assure all of you by now: it really is!

We found our SWIFT offered ‘for sale’ on a website, but were second in the line of buyers interested in the aircraft. After the first prospective buyer suddenly dropped his option we took our chance and closed the bargain.

Now, the SWIFT needed to be transferred from its homebase Stillwater, U.S. (near Minneapolis) to our Friend Ray who would thankworthy be helping checking and disassembling the aircraft and preparing its parts for shipping in a 20” container.

With our shipping partner “KROEGER” we arranged the pick-up of the container by truck and the transfer to the container harbor in Charleston, SC. On its vesselĀ  “Vancouver” the journey of the SWIFT continued over the North Atlantic. Destination: Rotterdam, Netherlands. After unexpected “intricacies” with dutch customs, bustling environmental officers and additional 12 days of paperwork the container was finally cleared to be carried to its final destination: City Airport Mannheim, Germany.
